our first big road trip

some Alabama-jamma, she my dixieland delight

our first big road trip

Logan's alarm didn't go off and he ended up staying home for the morning. His phone started ringing with an Alabama number, he answered it and they offered him an interview spot! We were thrilled, it was our first interview invitation and somewhere we were not expecting. We started looking at options to get him to the interview. It worked out nicely that he was on a rotation and had extra flexibility to take a few days off.

A quick google maps showed it was about an 8 hour drive. I was desperate for any sort of outing and we decided we would make it a family affair! Like most children, Benson hates the carseat... but we decided if we could wake up early enough he might sleep a good chunk of it.

We found a killer deal on a new suit for Log and the alterations finished just in time for us to hit the road the next day. We packed up the car the night before and went to sleep ready for an early wake up call.

Oct 20 we woke up at 4:15 am, and hit the road by 4:30. Benson was awake and pretty happy, only starting to lose it about an hour and a half into our drive. So we took the next exit, got some Mackers for breakfast and played in the car. He quickly fell asleep and we hit the road again. I fell asleep and woke up to this beautiful Kentucky sunrise!

Our next stop was just before Nashville. We got some donuts, stretched our legs and got ready for some more driving. I took a turn driving while my two co-pilots dozed off for another nap. The traffic in Nashville is no joke. I never drive anymore, and so being thrown into that was stressful. I was glad they were both sleeping so I could focus.

A few hours later they woke up and we were ready for the next break. Lizzie and Josh spent the summer in Huntsville, Alabama and so they had given us some recommendations. It's about an hour and a half outside of Birmingham. I saw a billboard for a Peach Farm right off the freeway, so we quickly exited and found the cutest little farm! We had a great lunch + their peach ice cream was amazing!!!

Back on the road for the last little bit. Logan drove, Benny and I partied in the back. About 15 minutes left Benson blew out big time! Once we got to the hotel I took him upstairs and just threw his clothes away.

We did it! Our first big road trip and it went so smoothly. Logan had a meet and greet that evening so we grabbed some dinner for me and it was so good! Jim N Nicks is a must. Logan took off, Benson and I snuggled up and watched tv for a few hours.

The next day Logan's interview wasn't until 2:00 so we got up and went to the botanical gardens. So much fun! I will defintiely check out the gardens here in St. Louis this year.

We got Jim N Nicks again for lunch and got Logan ready. We drove a few blocks and dropped Log off, came back to the hotel to relax. A few hours later Log was done and we walked down to meet him. Interview went great! We are so glad we could come and support him.

We had a few hours to kill so we checked out the swimming pool. It was freezing! This crazy boy didn't seem to mind.

Logan had another event that night. They spoiled them with dinner at a very fancy country club. He sent pictures of the beautiful city view!

The next morning we wanted to go and check out a city named Hoover.  If we moved here it would be an area we would want to look at. Our old neighbors are from here so they gave us some must stop places. The top on their list was Tortugas pizza! They were good friends with the owners and their pictures were all over the resturant.  It was fun to meet them and the food was great! We drove around, and ended up at Target to get a few things.

We decided to drive and spend the night in Huntsville so we could go to this fun event center named Stovehouse. We stopped again at the farmers market, and then drove on to Huntsville. We napped for a minute before going to Stovehouse. It was so cool! A bunch of resturants with live music... I would be here all the time if we lived here!

The next morning we started the drive home around 10 am. Not as early as we would have liked and boy was it brutal! We went in with the mindset that we might stop and stay somewhere else to split up the drive. After what felt like 3 days we finally arrived home!! What a fun trip together and an exciting time we have ahead.
